A Live Music Revue and Benefit Auction featuring Leah Siegel of Firehorse, Laura Burhenn of The Mynabirds, Dawn Landes, The Reverend John Delore & Kara Suzanne, Vandaveer and more special guests TBA The creators of The 78 Project invite you to share in an evening of music and a silent auction of their one-of-a-kind field recorded acetates. A beautiful evening celebrating the artists of their New York series and benefiting the Music Maker Relief Foundation. Since September of last year, The 78 Project has been field recording a diverse group of musicians in locations all around New York City on a vintage 1930s direct-to-disc acetate recorder. Each artist was given the opportunity to choose a song from the public domain that held meaning for them and a unique location for their recording. They then performed their song in one take, directly onto acetate disc. The artists who have recorded with The 78 Project span generations and hail from all over the country, tied together by a gratitude for and appreciation of music that is deeply American - from Blues, Folk and Country to Americana, Bluegrass and Roots. Each recording has been turned into a short filmed piece, released via The 78 Projectâs website. The project has drawn the attention of The New Yorker, which ran a Talk of the Town on the Valerie June recording session in its April 9th issue. This evening at City Winery will bring all the excitement of The 78 Project into a live setting, inviting musicians from the New York series to perform their songs, and inviting the audience to join them in the singular experience of cutting a record LIVE in one take. The live music revue will include performances from Leah Siegel of Firehorse, Laura Burhenn of The Mynabirds, Dawn Landes, Vandaveer, The Reverend John DeLore & Kara Suzanne and more to be announced! Throughout the night, the audience will have the opportunity to take home an original one-of-a-kind acetate from The 78 Project New York series via silent online auction. These 78 acetates are completely unique, no duplicate copies have been made. They are cut with a microgroove stylus, and can be played using a standard needle on any turntable at 78 speed. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take home a piece of history created by an incredible artist. And all the proceeds from the sale of the acetates will benefit the Music Maker Relief Foundation charity. + List of acetates available to include: Rosanne Cash "The Wayfaring Stranger", "Etta's Song" Richard Thompson âThe Coo Coo Birdâ, âHow Many Timesâ Loudon Wainwright III âOld Paintâ, âI Donât Careâ Leah Siegel of Firehorse âA Little Love, A Little Kissâ, âYoungâ Dawn Landes âThe Brown Girl (Lord Thomas and Fair Ellender)â The Reverend John DeLore & Kara Suzanne âOmie Wiseâ, âWounded Kneeâ The Mynabirds âRoses While Iâm Livingâ, âFallen Dovesâ Amy LaVere âRailroad Boy (Died of Love)â, âRed Banksâ Vandaveer âBanks of the Ohioâ, âThe Great Grayâ Valerie June âHappy or Lonesomeâ, âRaindanceâ + The sale, by silent online auction, of The 78 Project's New York Series original acetate records and a portion of ticket sales will benefit the Music Maker Relief Foundation's Musician Sustenance program, which provides grants to meet basic life needs and emergency relief. + VIP Experience - Your VIP and Best Reserved ticket entitles you to more than just a great view! Our project brings the spirit of his work into the present as we pair breakthrough musicians with the songs and the fascinating recording technology of the past. With just one microphone, one authentic 1930â²s PRESTO direct-to-disc recorder, and one blank lacquer disk, musicians are given the opportunity to make a recording anywhere they choose. What we have found is that the film, music and feelings that result defy space and time, living music inspired by ghosts. www.the78project.com Music Maker Relief Foundation keeps our culture vital by directly supporting senior (over 55) American roots musicians in need. Music Maker provides for basic life essentials while expanding their professional careers so that our rich musical heritage can be shared with the world and preserved for future generations. Since the organizationâs founding in 1994, Music Maker has assisted hundreds of musicians who represent the traditions of Blues, Gospel, Old-Time String Band, Jazz and more. Music Makerâs programs ensure the talents of these cultural treasures are accessible through hundreds of US and international live performances, multi-media documentation and outreach initiatives.
