The exhibition includes many important loans from museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Israel Museum, as well as from private lenders. This exhibition is a departure from its precedents in that it has been conceived as a visual and conceptual dialogue between the art of Picasso and the art of Francoise Gilot, his young muse and lover during the period 1943-53. The result of an active collaboration between Gilot and Picasso's biographer John Richardson, assisted by Gagosian director Valentina Castellani, 'Picasso and Francoise Gilot' celebrates the full breadth and energy of Picasso's innovations during these post-war years, as well as presenting Gilot's paintings alongside his innovative depictions of her and their family life.

Featuring a cash bar to keep the party going all night, and music served up by one of the top DJs that NYC has to offer, it doesn't get much better than this event. Annual Sake Tasting & Lecture @Japan Society Gallery

Most sake breweries are located near a plentiful source of pure, natural water, which plays a big role in the final flavors and nature of the sake. Sake rice is milled, sometimes down to 35 percent of the original size of the grains, in order to achieve the highest quality of sake. Sake expert John Gaunter introduces the importance of rice and water in sake brewing. The lecture is followed by a sake tasting reception with more than 30 kinds of premium sake.

Facing the Issues: William Sidney Mount and Current Events @The Long Island Museum of American Art, History and Carriages

The Long Island artist William Sidney Mount (1807-1868) lived during a time of tremendous growth and change in America. The population grew rapidly, more people moved from the countryside to cities, new states were admitted to the union, and the nation expanded westward. These rapid changes caused disruptions, uncertainty and discontent, as not everyone embraced the new politics, economy or morality. Mount's paintings reflect this tension. He himself had a foot in both the city world of New York (having spent part of his childhood there) and the rural world of Long Island (where he lived the majority of his life). Mount's paintings do not show a clear political, economic, or social position, but rather reflect the ambivalence and anxieties of his time. The paintings in this exhibit are divided into three groups, according to the issues they explore: Economic Growth, Politics and Changing Society.

The Historic Images of the Greek Bronze Age: the Reproductions of E Gillieron & Son @Metropolitan Museum of Art

This exhibition features a selection of early twentieth-century reproductions of now-famous artworks from Sir Arthur Evans's historic excavations of Minoan Crete and Heinrich Schliemann's Mycenaean Greece. Emile Gillieron and, later, his son were the senior draftsmen responsible for reconstructing the fresco paintings in the palace at Knossos. The Gillierons formed a thriving business selling original watercolors after the frescoes and other reproductions of three-dimensional artworks, which they made directly from the originals. Their work influenced the study of Aegean art and was integral to its widespread introduction throughout Europe and America. The installation draws from the Metropolitan Museum's own collection of Gillieron reproductions, which is the largest in existence.

The exhibition shares its title with Harrison's photograph of the back door maintenance entrance to Duchamp's Etant donnes, which is visible in the exhibition galleries of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and alludes to the entangled roles of the Artist, the Muse, and the Help. The twelve sculptures on view in the exhibition combine formalist inspiration and tragicomic epiphany and are imbued with Harrison's signature sense of slapstick timing. 'The Help' also introduces a group of drawings in which Harrison explores the passion and pathology of the tortured artist, a figure suspended between the pressures of ambitious creative vision and the public hunger for performance.

Yogmata Keiko Aikawa - Life Changing Sacred Himalayan Teachings @Resobox

Fundamentally, for any of the events that feels conflicting in life, there exists only a neutral standpoint where there is neither good nor bad. In spite of this, it is your mind which signifies that it is “a problem.” Therefore, unless you transcend your mind, make a shift towards a viewpoint of a higher dimension and go into a deeper state of calmness, you won’t be able to solve any of your problems, nor will you be able to attain tranquility or happiness. “Transcending your mind” is precisely nothing but “Emptying your mind.” I have discovered the way to achieve this state in “The Sacred Himalayan teachings.” By mastering this teaching through rigorous ascetic training, I am now here to share with all of you, the essence of how to empty your mind. First Female Himalayan Siddha Master to teach Empowering Meditations in the West About Yogmata Keiko Aikawa Yogmata Keiko Aikawa was born in Yamanashi, Japan, and has long been on a quest to explore the human condition. A Yogi since the age of 15, she has developed and organized what she calls Aikawa Yoga since the 1970s, and is working to spread this yoga in Japan. Her love of humanity has also led her to understand three things: the essence of human beings; that it is possible to show them the power of self-healing; and that human beings can transmit Anugraha Shakti to heal others. In 1985, she met the legendary great master, Hari Baba. Since then, she has undergone austere and rigorous training at altitudes of between 5,000 and 6,000 meters in the Himalayas. Under the guidance of Hari Baba, Yogmata Keiko Aikawa is the first non-Indian woman to realize the ultimate state of samadhi - a spiritual level that transcends the state of Awareness and in which a state of Oneness is attained with the Godhead. Today, Yogmata Keiko Aikawa is an author, public speaker and highly regarded and well-respected Siddha Master. She has performed samadhi at India’s sacred locations as well as at the Maha Kumbh Mela, a sacred event that occurs only once every 144 years. Yogmata Keiko Aikawa’s tireless contributions, remarkable presence and teachings have since been recognized and awarded; and in 2007 she was bestowed - by the largest spiritual Austerities Association in India, Juna Akara - the title “Mahamandaleshwar” (The Supreme Master of the Universe). In 2009, His Holiness the Dalai Lama even wrote the introductory note to her book, A Himalayan Master's Simple Way to Realization. Yogmata Keiko Aikawa has been featured across all media channels, including CNN, BBC, The Japan Times, and The Times of India. Official Page: http://www.yogmata.org/

Bringing together paintings and works on paper created during one of the most important periods of the surrealist artist's career, this is the largest and most comprehensive survey of Masson's art to be exhibited in New York since the 1976 retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Hans Schabus: Let's Call It Heimat @Simon Preston Gallery

'Let's Call It Heimat' is the first solo exhibition of work at the gallery by Austrian artist Hans Schabus. Hans Schabus is known for his ambitious, radical gestures to deconstruct and restructure space. This is a large-scale cinematic video titled 'Atelier.' Beginning with a succession of broad outdoor establishing shots to the soundtrack of a Western: horses, Mexican singing, a village band, fragments of dialogue, etc., the video is a meticulous shot-for-shot re-creation of the infamous shootout scene from 'The Wild Bunch,' the 1969 American Western. The original scene, notable for its pioneering and intricate multi-angle editing, is transposed to the artist's studio in Vienna. In the front gallery, a work titled 'Beton', is shown on a floor-based monitor.

Emotional Chaos to Clarity: How to Live More Skillfully, Make Better Decisions, and Find Purpose in Life @C.G. Jung Foundation for Analytical Psychology

Speaker: Phillip Moffitt Despite our best-laid plans, life can often be difficult, disappointing, and stressful. Consequently, when things don't go right, we are often left in a state of emotional chaos, dealing with feelings like anger, anxiety, frustration, and doubt, which can cloud our perspective and negatively affect the way we live our lives. In this lecture, Phillip Moffitt shows us that we need not be at the mercy of our emotions. By cultivating a responsive mind rather than a reactive one, we can achieve a state of emotional clarity that allows us to live skillfully and act with wisdom even in the face of obstacles or unhappiness. Moffitt speaks from a perspective that is grounded in both Western psychology and Buddhist philosophy. He leads us on a path that takes us from being caught in old, self-defeating habits of mind to a place of clarity where we can act from the wisdom of our intentions, allowing us to move through life's challenges with a calm, clear mind and a peaceful, loving heart. Former Esquire magazine CEO and editor-in-chief, Phillip Moffitt left his successful publishing career at the age of forty to embark on a path that led him to become a Buddhist meditation teacher and found the Life Balance Institute. He is the author of Emotional Chaos to Clarity: How to Live More Skillfully, Make Better Decisions, and Find Purpose in Life. Hero, Villain, Yeti: Tibet in Comics @Rubin Museum of Art

Characters as diverse as Mickey Mouse, the historical Buddha, Tomb Raider Lara Croft, and the Green Lama have something in common: Tibet. For more than sixty years Tibet has figured in comic books from around the world, at times creating and at times perpetuating notions of an otherworldly land roamed by the yeti, inhabited by wise and powerful lamas, or full of dark magic. 'Hero, Villain, Yeti' features the most complete collection of comics related to Tibet ever assembled, with examples ranging from the 1940s to the present. More than fifty comic books from the Belgium, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan and the United States reflect on the depiction of Tibet, tracing the historical roots of prevailing perceptions and stereotypes and their visual and narrative evolution over time. Visitors are invited to read dozens of original comic books--a number of which have been translated into English for the first time--at a reading station in the exhibition.

Famous Artist Michael Kalish Unveils Sculpture In Hudson River Park With Perrier Jouet @Hudson River Park - Pier 46

Perrier-Jouët has partnered with famed contemporary artist Michael Kalish to create a three-dimensional, 14-and-a-half foot tall sculpture to be unveiled in the Hudson River Park at the Charles Street entrance, near Pier 46, on Monday, June 11th. The sculpture will be on display and open to the public for four weeks. Additionally, a generous donation will be made during the unveiling by Perrier-Jouët to the Hudson River Park to help their continuous efforts in maintaining the allure of the park. The sculpture consists of two swooping anemone stems created out of stainless steel and bent aluminum tubing. The flower petals are hand cut layers of aluminum with gold metal piping from more than 100 Perrier-Jouët Champagne cages. In addition, hundreds of champagne corks were ground to a fine consistency and inlayed in the base. Perrier-Jouët partnered with Michael Kalish to create his interpretation of a beautiful, alluring garden to pay homage to the Perrier- Jouët Belle Époque bottle motif. The magnificent and delicate anemone flower is an iconic symbol of the House of Perrier-Jouët and served as inspiration for Kalish’s “Belle Époque” sculpture.

Dance/NYC 2012 Town Hall CONNECT THE BLOCKS @PS 122

Dance/NYC presents the launch of Connect the Blocks: Resource Sharing in NYC Dance with a town hall hosted by Performance Space 122, 150 First Avenue (Entrance on E. Ninth Street), NYC, on Monday, June 11, 2012 from 6-8:30pm. Connect the Blocks is a new initiative by Fourth Arts Block (FABnyc) and OurGoods to strengthen the culture of resource sharing for dance makers across the city. Admission is free, but advanced registration is required. Reservations can be made at https://dancenyc.secure.force.com/ticket. Leaders from Dance/NYC, Fourth Arts Block, and OurGoods will discuss resource sharing in NYC dance. Money for dance making is scarce. What happens when dance is made using resources other than dollars? What are opportunities for creating economies of collaboration and combination? New Yorkers are responding to these questions with innovative models for identifying, leveraging and sharing resources to make their work and achieve their missions. This Town Hall will showcase some solutions, instigate a larger conversation about strategies and tactics for sharing, and close with a live barter meetup, including a crash course on the fundamentals of bartering and a mapping of the needs and haves in the room.

Intended to advance economies of collaboration and combination in NYC dance, the Town Hall will launch Connect the Blocks, a joint Fourth Arts Block and OurGoods initiative to strengthen the resource sharing culture for independent dance makers across the City. ournightlife.com - Friday Night Salsa and Tequila Tasting @Roy Arias Dance Studios

There's the two-step, the boogalu, the twist - we could go on and on when describing the different styles of dance. But in New York City, there's one form that heats up the night, and takes the party to another level - salsa. It isn't the easiest thing in the world to salsa, but that doesn't mean that you can't learn. It's all about the music and what you feel, but even if you can't find that "rhythm" you seek, here's the perfect opportunity for you to do so. Every Friday night in Times Square, prepare for Salsa 101, a unique learning experience that will take on those who have always wanted to salsa, but have never dared. This is the perfect introductory class for those with absolutely no prior experience in dance. You'll be able to discover the basics of this sexy style, in a friendly environment with other beginners as well! Don't worry about bringing a partner with you, we have you covered. To make the class even more enticing, it includes a tequila tasting following the big lesson. It's an overall active learning experience that not only makes you move, but educates you on every aspect that is tequila.
